Citely — Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2, 2026
Citely (“we”, “the app”) helps Shopify merchants measure and improve how AI assistants (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude) find and recommend their store. This policy explains what data we access, how we use it, and your rights.
Data we access and store
- Store details: your store’s domain and public catalog (product and collection titles, descriptions and URLs). We read these to generate your AI file and to run visibility checks.
- Visibility reports: the results of your AI visibility checks (scores, competitor brand names surfaced by AI, and which engines mention your store). These are stored so you can see history and trends. They are always tied to your store only.
- App settings: preferences you save in the app, such as your custom buying prompts.
- Contact email (optional): if you enable the weekly email report, we store the email address you provide, only to send you that report. You can turn it off at any time in the app, and it is deleted when you uninstall.
Data we do NOT collect
Citely does not collect, store or process your customers’ personal data. We do not access orders, customer records, or personally identifiable information.
Third-party services
To provide the service, limited data is shared with:
- AI engines (OpenAI, Perplexity, Google Gemini, Anthropic): we send category buying queries (e.g. “best running shoes”) to measure whether your store is recommended. No customer data is sent.
- Supabase: stores your visibility reports and app settings.
- Resend: delivers the weekly email report, if you enable it (they process your contact email for delivery only).
- Shopify: provides the app platform and your store data via official APIs.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your visibility reports while the app is installed. When you uninstall Citely, or on a Shopify data-erasure request, all of your store’s data is deleted from our systems (handled automatically via Shopify’s compliance webhooks).
Cookies
Our website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. The app only uses functional browser storage (for example, remembering that you dismissed the welcome message).
Usage data
To understand how the app is used and where it falls short, we record basic product events on our own servers — which screen was opened, that an analysis was run, and the resulting score — together with your store domain and a timestamp. There is no third-party analytics service, no cookies and no cross-site tracking, and we never record data about your customers. These events are deleted along with the rest of your store’s data when you uninstall the app.
Security
Data is stored with an established cloud provider (Supabase) and transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access is restricted to the app’s server.
